All spells of Lorecraft require Ingredients and/or Components - the difference being that Ingredients are consumed in the casting and Components are not. Likewise, the material used in Alchemy Greater and Lesser are considered Ingredients, as are the materials used in ArtCraft and the Foci of Savantry. Ingredients and Components make up one of the most common Trade items in Worldstree. Spells that use materials that require the Death or Maiming of a living being, or that use Moridur, are considered Black Magic and are outlawed in most Lands.
Some examples from Lorecraft:
Gereth's Tanglefoot (M25, Tanglefoot): Component, a string tied in a particular series of knots.
Helieoth's Spell of Enchantment (M59, Charm): Ingredient, something beloved of the victim's.
Yeonatial's Simple Seeming (M45, Simple Illusion): Component, a Silverbacked mirror.
Neonan's Scaly Enslavement (M22, Reptile Control): Ingredient, the preserved brain of a reptile.
An example from Lesser Alchemy: Beauty Potion requires for rosebuds,
one of red, pink, yellow and white, harvest in the Waxing of Eaglemoon,
dust from a pearl and a pinch of white clay.
