The Worldstree

The most obvious thing that can be said about the Worldstree is that it is unbelievable huge. It is over 100 miles in diameter and does not begin to branch until 10 miles above the ground (and therefore outside the atmosphere). It is the only thing taller than the Ringwall Mountains and, considering the flat horizon, visible from anywhere within them. The area surrounding the Worldstree is known simply as Treesland.

Physically, it looks like a generic tree, though rather out of proportion (the branches begin at 1/10th the trunk's width). Both the bark and the roots grow in an unusual branching pattern, unlike any other tree. Although it does not shed or loose leaves, daring explorers report that the leaves themselves and the branches that support them follow the same pattern.

The Worldstree has many unique properties. First, and most noticeable, is that it generates its own attractive force. It is possible to walk UP the tree, for as far as one cares to. This effects also includes the roots of the Tree, which spiral around it and may be more than half a mile high. In fact, the Rootowns are partially built up along the tree trunk, with the streets making a casually 90 degree turn.  The Savants maintain a temple at the First Branching, essentially supported by Magic.

The Worldstree can also be used to open Gates into other Myths, though this is rare above the Rootsworld.
