There are only three common metals in Worldstree, and they are all Magical. Formally, they are Aurium (Faerie Gold), Argentium (Mithril) and Adamantium, but are also called Gold, Silver and Iron as nonmagical equivalents do not exist in this Myth. Other Substances, such as Gems and Stones, exist in profuse variety, and there a very few Low Metals, which are exceeding rare. Weirwood takes the place of ordinary metals in Worldstree Technology.
The opposing Natures of Adamantium and Faerie Gold drive the endless War that occupies many of the Civilized Races.
Using Lorecraft, the Metals can be directly transmuted into Magical Energy. Thus coins made of Gold and Silver form the basis of Trade for the Races central to the Worldstree, and Adamantium ones for the Dark Elves and Allies. Beyond Lorecraft, many magics, particularly Greater Alchemy and Crafting require Metals.
Faerie Gold is found only in open Streams and Rivers, and them somewhat
randomly. Mithril may be found in streams or mined in certain Mountains
(especially the Landspine),
but Adamantium is found only deep underground. This is related to the relative
wieghts of the Metals: Gold is much less dense than Iron.
