The Academies are the foremost centers of Magical study in Worldstree. There are six major Campuses, two in Naelaceron (Mirarm and Yalaishae), two in Elaceri (Shiel and Wilantharlor), one in Commons and the last under the Opaline Ocean in U'uaioele. The Academies offer ten and twenty year apprenticeships in Lorecraft, Alchemy, Spellsong and ArtCraft. In addition, various masters at the Academies collect knowledge on every variety of magic every encountered, from Necromancy to Astsantsen DreamCraft.

A limited number of apprentices are accepted each season, and competition is fierce. Three out of four students are charged rather extravagent fees, to make possible the scholarship of the fourth. The Academies are a favorite with rich Elven nobility, and never lack for funds. They are purely research institutions, and do not offer finished enchantments for sale, nor are their full time Associates allowed to hire out their services. Thus the Academies remain in good standing with the Alchemists Guild and other professional mages, and are able to buy their components and ingredients (those they cannot produce themselves) at a fare rate.

The territory occupied by the Academies is considered sovreign and outside the control of the surrounding kingdoms. It is thus that they are able to disavow the War. A graduate of the Academie may always claim santuary in any of the schools, so that even a Damethear can be safe within the Naelathen city of Mirarm, provided she doesn't leave campus.
