The Naelathen Cities:  The Forest Jewels

The five Naelathen Cities are named Mirarm, Jolesae, Alantheanor, Yalaishae, and Mar-Adimore. Each is unique and uniquely beautiful. The cities are commanded by their Princes (except Alantheanor, which is the home of the Monarch), each of which possess a Sacred Artifact. The Artifacts, and the Princes, go a long way towards defining the character of their cities. Each of the Cities lies on one of the tributaries of the ForestRoad.

Mirarm is the city of 10,000 Butterflies. Not only is it the Twilight home of all Monarch Butterflies (one of the few nonsentient creatures in Worldstree), but it is also the home of all Nymphs, who also gather there. Mirarm is a city of flowers and secret gardens and Eternal Morning. Though the Sun continues his yearly path, Mirarm never grows cold or hot, and flowers bloom throughout the year. The Sacred Artifact of the Prince of Mirarm is the Monarch Cloak. Mirarm is situated at the convergence of the Blue Diamond and Jolsa Rivers.

Yalaishae means, roughly, Storms' Promise Fulfilled. It is the City of Rainbows, built entirely of soft pastel stone with prisms as windows, so that the city is a riot of color, and a dazzling vision in MidDay. Jewels and gems also abound. Naturally, its Ruler is the Hummingbird Prince. Yalaishae is on the banks of the BlueDiamond River.

Alantheanor is the Heart of the Wood, so name for both its structure and position. It is the capital of Naelaceron, ruled by the Monarch from the Lion Throne. Alantheanor is situated at the juncture of four tributaries to the Forest Road, occupying four sides and three islands. It is a city of graceful bridges and green sailed ships, the seat of an ancient yet vibrant Civilization.

Jolesae is, literally, the Dream of Squirrels. It is a treetops city, built of platforms in the heights of the Forest Giants. The platforms are linked by both narrow wooden bridges and ropes, used Tarzan-style. The Prince of Squirrel is a great lover of celebrations, and Jolease is noted for its daily revels. Jolesea is on the east shore of the Jolsa River.

Mar-Adimore is the Pearl Unseen. It is located on the shore of the Stormy Sea, and thus is routinely assailed by the WindLord's worst. Despite this, the weather inside is always pleasant, if often wet. Mar-Adimore is surrounded by walls of rough mortar embedded with uncountable shells, but the buildings inside are made of a Mother-of-Pearl, either spherical or irregularly shaped. The SeaSailors of Mar-Adimore brave the Windlord's Fury to sail to the ports of the Mercantile Centaur Nations of the north shore of the Sea.
