Centaurs resemble a combination of Elf and Unicorn. From the torso up, their bodies are those of particularly brawny Elves; from the waist down they are Unicorn. Their lower bodies come in all the colors standard to horses - roan, black, white, grey, palamino, etc - but, of course, there are no horses in this Myth. The skin of their upper bodies is usually tan and their hair color matches the color of their lower body hair. Centaurs are usually between 6'6" and 7'6" and weigh 1300 pounds.  Females are smaller than males.  Male Centaurs have a mane of hair that begins on their head and continues down their spine. Centaurs can and do sit, by folding their legs underneath them. In such a position, a Centaur is considered helpless, and males use rituals for "sitting together".

The Centaur Nations occupy the vast Thunderfields, between the Elfpass and the Wormpass Mountains, south to the Lair of the WindLord and the Stormy Sea. The Tribes in the North are great Warrior Nations. Those further south are Agarians and those on the Stormy Sea are Merchant Nations. The is a single Forest Nation on the edge of Centaur Territory, just north of the WindLord.

There is another "nation" outside of the Thunderfields, the Gypsy Nation. These are wanderers and traders who roam the length and bredth of Worldstree. Gypsies are known to adopt nonCentaurs into their Tribe.

Although Centaurs are Immortal, they are not Unaging. All except the Half-Breeds suffer the deteriorations of Time. Elders, however, are highly Respected and are often Leaders in lieu of the Half-Breeds. Centaurs ALWAYS work in groups and always have a Leader. A Tribe may have several hundred Centaurs. A Flank Herd is usually made of four or five males. War Parties have up to thirty. Gathering Herds of females have their own Hierarchy, with the eldest wife of the highest ranking Herd member in charge.

Two figures are used universal in Centaur Mythology: the Pegasus and the Unicorn. The Pegasus is the the Sun, Lord of Weather and the War. He is usually called the HerdMaster. His mate is the Unicorn - the HerdMother. The HerdMother is the Lady of the Moons, Plants and Fertility. Together they bred the first generation of  Centaurs. Centaurs are thus the direct descendents of these still living celestial beings and are Led by the Half-Breed children of these Beings.
