Nymphs and Slyphs

Nymphs and Slyphs represent the order Lepodoptera. Although sexless, they are strongly dimorphic. Very occasionally, a butterfly or moth pupa will continue to grow instead of opening until several years later, when it with emerge as a Nymph or a Slyph instead of a normal insect.

Slyphs have dusky gray bodies and pastel patterned wings. They have long feathered antennae but otherwise have normal human facial features. Slyphs are exclusively Noctural, and have perfect night vision. Slyphs are very malicious and greedy, and use their Magical Knacks to waylay and steal from travellers. During the day their bodies naturally change colour to match their surroundings, allowing them to sleep safely almost anywhere. Slyphs do not eat.

Nymphs have tan or light brown bodies, and show a wide variety of wing coloration, from solid black to yellow and orange stripes. They spend most of their time planting and caring for their flowers. Those that inhabit colder climates migrate during winter, gathering in and around the southern Naelathen city of Mirarm. Nymphs are very curious and playful creature, but most are incapable of true conversations. They make no permanent homes nor any artifacts.
