Bears are the wisest of the Celenes. Most Astrologers are Bears, and they are the nominal Leaders of Silverymoon. Bears are also the largest Celenes, often topping six feet and three hundred pounds of muscle (and fat, especially in Evening). Bears are basically solitary, especially as it concerns their own Kind. Though they may live in mixed communities, there is rarely more than one Bear per village.

Bears are deeply concerned with the various aspects of Nature and Myth. Those who do not become Astrologers are often Savants - though Savants are never Astrologers, as there is a basic impasse regarding the Natural function of Gates. Bears are silent and brooding, never acting on impulse, but are known to respond violently to open hostility or threat to their communities.
