The Burning Desert is the Northmost point of Worldstree, and thus that the worst (and best) of the Sun. The Desert is limitless sand, intersperced with a few Mesas (often riddled with and undermined by limestone caverns) and Pyramids, bound by the volcanically active Sunshield Mountains to the South. The sand is translucent in places and blinding SunSets are a daily display. There is no freeflowing surface water, and the underground taps are closely controlled and usually located in the aforementioned structures. The Sphinx and his WereSphinx offspring live in the Burning Desert, as do many Dragons, especially the SandDragons, spawn of Nightfire, and the Sirocco Dragons, certain Myrmidons and the SunElves. The Sun has a palace at the Northmostpoint, amongst the Ringwall Mountains.  Fartalises are found here. The major flora is, of course, succulents, especially cacti, some of which have bizarre forms and properties.

There are places in the Burning Desert where sands of any color may be found, usually in the lee of several Mesas. There is also a patch known as the Rainbow Flow, the glorious specticle of which can entrance and create mirages. The various colors of sand are one of the main exports of the region.

The Burning Desert is rich with many types of gems, but mostly lacking in metals.
