Lung Dragons are all the children, produced parthenogenically, of Emperor Hsi Lung. They can appear as beautiful humans and shapechange freely into other forms, even landscape features and swords. Their bodies can be red, yellow, white, blue or black. Males have whiskers, twisted horns and a pearl under their chins. A sacred lump, the chi'ih muh grows on their foreheads allowing them to fly. All Lung Dragons are the mortal enemies of Tigers.

Lung Dragons gain karma by behaving honorably, acting like Dragons, respecting their elders and sacrificing pearls and opals to Emperor Hsi Lung.

Kioh-Lung

Kioh-Lung hatch from beautiful opals and pearls blessed by Hsi-Lung and scattered around Worldstree. Until the age of 500, they have no horns, rear legs (the forelegs are underdeveloped) or magical powers. They can breathe normally in water or air.

After 500 years, the chi'uh muh develops, allowing the Kioh-Lung to fly and develop its powers of Water, Air, Light and Darkness, Geomancy,  and Shapeshifting. When another five centuries pass, Kioh-Lung metamorphize again into Ying Lung (adults). Depending on their karma, they become one of the following (listed in order of blessedness). They maintain all of the powers that they have already developed.

Li Ying Lung

Li Ying live in dry caves, cannot breathe water, and fly with wings instead of chi'ih muh. This is the form of least Karma - perhaps Kioh-Lung who have never sent a pearl or opal to the Emperor loose theirs. Li Ying look like dragonwinged lions with dragon heads and human facial features. They are burrowers, and have a special harmony with the Earth and the ability to cause earthquakes.

Ying Lung Wang

Ying Lung Wang have the shell and flippers of giant sea turtles, with dragon heads and tails. The shell are often 30' in diameter. They live alone on sea floors, especially the Stormy Sea, and speak only their own language. They despise intrusions but can be bribed not to attack ships in return for sacrificed treasure. They have the powers of Fish and Reptile Control.

P'an Ying Lung

P'an Ying Lung are cloud dragons. They are slender like a snake with tiny legs and a dragon's head. They have a great deal of control over the weather, especially rain. They have control over Weather, Fish, Reptiles and powers of Mentalism. They share a secret language with Shen Yin Lung dragons. P'an Ying Lung breath "fire water" somewhat like napalm, which surrounds their bodies and burns anything nearby.

Shen Ying Lung

Shen Ying Lungs are the administers of the Emperor's domains on Worldstree. They can live in rivers and lakes. Shen Ying Lung breathe fire water like P'an Ying Lung. They cannot be poisoned and poisonous creatures cannot approach them. They can bless or curse an individual with Luck or Unluckiness. They are masters of Mentalism, Reptile Control and Fish Control.

The Emperor Hsi Lung, EagleMoon

Their great Father and Lord is Hsi-Lung, the EagleMoon.  In the Mists of Ages, he took the pearl from his chin and shattered it to form pearls and opals. He breathed on them and cast them down to the land. One became Yi Li Lung, one Ying Lung Wang, one P'an Ying Lung and the last Shen Ying Lung.
