Naelathen Art and Recreation

The most common physical expression of Naelathen art is found in wood sculpture and engraving . Almost every home will have some type of carved wooden figure, ranging in size from a few inches to lifesized (carvings will never be larger than lifesize - it's taboo for the image to exceed the reality). The style is relatively realistic, tending towards fluidity and grace.    All Elves value poetry, especially spontaneous compositions.  In Naelathen culture, spontaneous composition is considered a separate art, and is much more highly valued than premeditated poetry. Spontaneous poetry is done a capella, but other types are always accompanied by music. Due to the complexity of the Naelathen language, all types of poetry are exceedingly difficult to master.

Naelathe enjoy physical contests of skills, especially in a natural setting. Wrestling, archery and dueling (to first blood) are common activities. Mages also contest one another to see who can create the most impressive magical effects, and thus gain theof the spectators.  . Recreational violence is limited to other Intelligent Species.  Gambling is also very popular. Naelathen games tend to based  both on skill and luck. Most games employ either ten-sided dice or cards or both. The rules for these games are usually incredibly complex and convoluted. Naelathe also play a three dimensional version of chess, a single game of which may take years.
